YouTube in talks with major studios for movie rentals





According to Wall Street Journal, YouTube is currently holding discussions with major movie studios. The topic under discussion is the possiblity of bringing streaming moves on a rental basis. If this discussion ends in a positive note, it could be good News for Hollywood studios as it would get a chance to earn from online revenues. The studios that were approached by YouTube include:

  • Lions Gate Entertainment Corp
  • Sony Corp
  • Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
  • Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros

Here is what Wall Street Journal says as quoted by MacRumors:

YouTube is talking to Lions Gate Entertainment Corp., Sony Corp., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Bros. about charging for new titles on the existing YouTube site. In some cases, these titles might be available on the site on the same day that they come out on DVD.
